TV Reviews: iZombie: S2E13: The Whopper

Ravi and Major uncover a body while searching for the tainted utopium filled bodies. Sadly, it was one of the ones they needed, leading them to call in Clive. Clive promptly makes fun of them for geocaching (basically searching for a container with a GPS). Clive pulls Major to the side to discuss what he saw before the meat cute murders, which Major dismisses as his imagination. Meanwhile, Liv tells Ravi that Blaine is the crazy guy moving in on Bosses territory. Blaine is being threatened by a zombie reporter for better brains and … “companionship” while Blaine struggles to keep the FBI from finding the truth.

The brain of the week belonged to a habitual liar nicknamed Big fish so Liv almost instantly has trouble frying up the truth. The recipe of the week is a brain burger with bacon, lettuce, sriracha and cheese.

Blaine’s father, Angus’, last will and testament were read, leaving Blaine with the vast majority of his estate. However, with one small caveat, that if Angus’ death was due to foul play, everything reverts to Angus’s friend and companion of over 30 years. Blaine is then summoned to the basement for a present, Major in a body bag. He then questions Major under the threat of turning him into a zombie and burying him. Major reaches a deal with Blaine to bring his father back and Blaine controls the zombie hit list.

Liv and Drake enjoy more bedroom cuddle time until Major interrupts to interrogate Liv about her relationship with Blaine. Major then hears someone moving around in Liv’s bedroom and makes a quick exit after Liv lies and says it’s her brother.

Drake is given the assignment to kill Clive’s prime suspect (Tyrell) by The Boss. Tyrell attacks Drake as soon as he says The Boss sent me. Clive and Liv arrive and see signs of struggle as well as a computer full of tickets to Mexico.

Major returns Angus to Blaine who offers his troublesome reporter in exchange. Blaine defrosts Angus and has the “employees” torture him until he is ready to make a new video will.

Drake sneaks into Liv’s room in the middle of the night after missing a lovely dinner she prepared, triggering a memory of Drake being shot by Big Fish.

Clive and his bed buddy are able to instantly identify Major from a bleary, shaded and half covered photo.

Liv visits big fishes mother to get more information on him and try to narrow down where the tainted utopium is located. While looking at family photos, a memory is triggered, leading Liv to an almost exact location of the bodies filled with tainted utopium. The memory came at just the right time because new hope (the test rat) died, meaning both Major and Blaine are on the fast track to deadsville. The group finds the dump site and the bodies that night.

Impression: Finally, Clive recognizes that Liv takes on the personality traits of the people they investigate. Either Clive is paying way too much attention to Major’s facial features or he rapidly jumped to the conclusion Major was in the photo. Possibly because he’s had the previous issue with Major, either way, Major is now back on Clive’s radar and that unfortunate for him. Liv is rapidly becoming more unsure of the man she invited into her life but for some reason hasn’t done anything but whine and ask him questions. This leaves me to wonder why Drake is such a major plot point.

Major’s double agent status is making it difficult for him to be honest with anyone in his life yet, for some reason, no one notices all the lies that he is telling or they just don’t care. Blaine this episode was his typical self and even gave Major an epiphany moment, reminding him they will be zombies again soon and had better get used to it. Peyton didn’t make an appearance this episode but I’m hoping that someway she can still date Blaine. Also, Liv brought two spades to help dig up the bodies while Major brought a garden shovel and did the actual work. Ravi and Liv just stood around watching. What's up with that Liv and Ravi?

Final Verdict: Stasis Mode (3/5)
