Since the announcement from Disney in 2014 , the world has patiently waited for a sign, or any glimpse, revealing the work of the Beauty and the Beast, the Hans Christian Andersen story turned animated Disney movie, and now transformed into a live-action Disney film. Unveiled by ABC’s Good Morning America, we were given the first teaser trailer of Beauty and the Beast, which left us wanting a little more than just 1 minute and 30 seconds of footage.
The trailer starts off with original Disney title screen, but it is not Cinderella’s castle that you see; it is, or was, Prince Adam’s castle, and it appears to be snowing. In the next few scenes, we are shown some of the interior rooms of the castle, including what was once the beautiful ballroom, hallways, etc. I say, “once” because the rooms start to show age and decay of not keeping the castle in order. For example, a scene in the trailer shows the growth of cobwebs, and another shows the melting of candles in their candelabras.
As the trailer continues, the viewer sees a royal portrait, with a golden-haired boy in the middle, and as the camera closes on the face of the boy, scratch marks appear. Two voices, who we can only discern as Lumiere, the French-sulty Candelabra, and Cogworth, the uptight clock. Talking amongst themselves, they see that it is a girl entering the castle and Cogsworth asks if the young lady could be the one, meaning the one to break the spell on the castle. Moving on, the door of the castle, which was previously forced into, opens and as the scene goes black, a young lady says, “Hello?” The trailer ends with a rose inside a jar and the young lady, Belle, is glancing at it, curiously, and the words of the famous song, “Be Our Guest” and the movie release date under. Even with little dialogue, the cinematography of the scenes is truly magical and definitely gives the viewer the feeling of enchantment that this tale has.
Sources say that unlike Maleficient (2014) and Cinderella (2015), two previous Disney remakes, Beauty and the Beast will actually take its que from the animated movie and be a musical. Beauty and the Beast, directed by Bill Condon, is a retelling of Disney's classic 1991 animated film that stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. Kevin Kline, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Audra McDonald, Ian McKellen and Emma Thompson also star in the film, and will hit theaters March 17, 2017.
So what do you think of the teaser trailer?
