TV Reviews: The Librarians: S2E5: And the Hollow Men

Cassandra and Jenkins stay behind in the library to help navigate Ezekiel, Jake, and Eve through using a communication pendant. Ezekiel and Jake looked for a glass globe while Eve unknowingly attacked a disguised Flynn, who is dressed in a suit of armor. The estranged couple proceeded to argue about an array of things, mostly Flynn’s irresponsible nature. By the time Eve and Flynn realized the artifact reappearing is a trap, it’s too late and they, along with Jake, and, Ezekiel is put to sleep by pan’s flute.

Flynn is awoken by Eve calling to him via the pendant. He discovered a wall filled with information on the librarians, which causes him to realize all the missing artifacts are in the room with him. He grabbed a glass globe for self-defense against his captor, but is ultimately yelled at by the crazed man.

The library is breaking down and is completely unstable, so Jenkins tries to resolve the library’s issue with stability while everyone else goes to find Flynn. The group lands at the largest magical hotspot near the kidnap area where they find a storage container with all the information and magical artifacts that are missing but Flynn is not there. Disappointed that they did not find Flynn, they decide to take the artifacts but are met by Moriarty. Jake charges him with a spear and is able to create enough of a diversion for them to escape. They all run towards the open door to the library, but Eve gets left behind.

Meanwhile, Flynn figures out that his kidnapper is the consciousness of the library and he needs to return his memories so that he and the library can be repaired. Moriarty catches up with Eve as she tries to hot-wire a truck and offers a truce in exchange for a ride and hopefully a way for him to be free from his captor. He allows her to use the sprite to find Flynn.

Jenkins has the group set a line of ghost light (light bulbs that have captured the emotion of the years and just appeared at the library once full) so the library will have something to eat other than cannibalizing itself. Moriarty has a conversation with Eve that humanizes him and even made me question his motives as a villain. He even has Eve questioning the actions of Flynn.

Flynn and Ray (the library’s consciousness) avoid the traps and finds the staff of knowledge, but when Ray grabs it the information is overpowering and creates a dangerous environment. Eve and Moriarty show up just in time to save the day since Moriarty is the only one that can handle the staff of knowledge without dying.

Back at the library, the last ghost light is going out and when it does the library will eat the oldest thing within which is Jenkins and even though he is immortal he will still feel the pain of being eaten. Flynn and Eve arrive just in time to save the day by returning Ray back into the actual library. Flynn goes off to try to defeat Prospero much to the dismay of Eve while Eve stays behind to clean up the mess with the rest of the group

Review: Flynn and Eve seem to be moving towards an inevitable breakup which is sad but it will be nice for Flynn to find someone new. Hopefully, eve doesn’t get seduced by the logic and reason of Moriarty but it would be nice to see a darker Eve in the series. This episode was pretty good and the storyline felt real, the relationship development made me excited to watch and the characters themselves felt like full people.

Final Score: 8/10 Power Ups
