Flynn is ready to send the young librarians away; partially blaming them for Prospero’s escape. While Eve is excited that (for once) they may be able to beat the bad guy before he does too much harm. With the additional help, the gang moves off in different directions of the library. Jenkins goes to get an original copy of the tempest, Jake and Ezekiel check the card catalog for a lost staff and Cassandra goes to check the magic tones while Flynn decides that he knows where the staff is and has Eve to come with him.
Jenkins walks into the reading room to discover that Moriarty has broken in and summoned Prospero. Meanwhile Flynn and Eve go to the estate of John D., a wizard and friend of Shakespeare, where they hope to find the pieces of the staff. The ancient estate is in ruin with only one wall standing, the rest have crumbled with time, leaving only echoes of what was.
Jenkins is forced to lockdown the library however, he is smart enough to do a low-level lockdown, which allows the gang to figure out that Prospero is inside the library. Jenkins asks Prospero “Do you know who I am?” For those of you who don’t, he is Galahad; a knight of Arthur’s round table as well as one of three who found the Holy Grail. Jenkins is a lovely character and the actor plays him well. He quickly deduced Prospero entire plan before Prospero went into a long winded monologue. I hate when villains do this. Just shut up, go do your plan, and let them figure it out in the end.
His plan is to take a branch from the tree of knowledge to make another wand since his original wand was made from the tree of knowledge. Too bad for Prospero that the heart of the library is in a separate fold of space but of course Jenkins reveals that information to Prospero. Seriously? Just shut up let Prospero figure it out himself! Why give the bad guy any additional information? That is something that annoys me.
Concurrently Flynn and Eve find a box and thanks to Eve remembering her lines from Macbeth, they are able to open it. They found the staff was taken from the box and replaced by a note saying another librarian beat them to it.
Ezekiel, the resident thief, studied the security manual and knows there is a password to unlock the library. The newly appointed Librarians find the book they need and unlock the library just as Flynn and Eve return. In order to slow down the librarians, Prospero releases more fictional characters after freezing Jenkins in a block of ice.
After smashing the block of ice and releasing Jenkins, Jenkins reveals Prospero’s plan to the group. This is why you don’t tell your plan to the enemy people. Jenkins also reveals that he can’t lead the group to the elevator that would take them to the heart of the library because it is missing.
Prospero finds the elevator to the heart of the library while the librarians must triangulate the center and make it there before he finds the tree. Flynn and Ezekiel find their way to the antiquities room however, all the artifacts of Roman and Greek mythology are quite close to one another which is a big problem because if the two touch they will create an explosion. After they solve the artifact problem Frankenstein wanders in and presents himself as another problem. It was so nice of him to wait until they solved the artifact issue to show up.
Flynn and Ezekiel set Frankenstein’s monster up with a dating profile and plastic surgeon so he happily swipes for matches while they set up the lay lines. Jake and Eve setup a pseudo looking glass and send the queen of hearts back to her book before joining the others to finish laying the lines.
One person has to hold the equipment steady while the other jumps into the stream of energy that will take them directly to the heart of the Library. Luckily, they went in pairs. Eve and Flynn go from their respective location and end up within eyesight of each other.
Prospero has a sprite that can lead him directly to the tree while Flynn and Eve fight about Flynn’s reckless nature. Prospero grabs a branch from the tree just as Flynn launches Zeus’s lightning bolt at it. The tree burns to the ground, keeping Prospero from completing his plan. Prospero vanishes and Flynn reveals that he didn’t burn the tree of knowledge. He just made Prospero think it was the tree of knowledge. He isn’t quite sure what tree he did burn though.
Jenkins locks down the reading room so no fictional character can break into the library through books again. Flynn decides that he needs to go after the artifacts while Eve decides it best to stay and secure the library. They split up, leaving Eve to maintain the library with Jake, Ezekiel, Cassandra and Jenkins.
