Marvel has been taking the film industry by storm and now it looks like they are taking over Netflix by launching several exclusive titles to the subscription service. The first series released was Daredevil. It was action packed, sexy, well written, and had critical success. Everyone is expecting the next Marvel series, Marvel's Jessica Jones, to follow in its predecessor footsteps. It will star Krysten Ritter who previously worked on popular shows, such as Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Gravity, ‘til Death, and Veronica Mars.
Jessica Jones is about a former superhero who decides to open a detective agency after the end of her superhero career. While Jessica is trying to create a new name for herself. A mysterious stranger from her past (played by David Tennant) seeks to bring havoc to the former superhero's life. According to the trailer, she is someone who enjoys a drink, she is able to lift a slow moving car, and she rather forget a few details from her past.
Ms. Jones confesses all of this to future love interest Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) who discovers her secret and Jessica discovers a few of his own. Luke Cage is a man with superhuman strength, and unbreakable skin. In the comics, he plays a profound role in Jessica's life. Some of that can be seen in the trailer as he advices her that revealing her superpowers is dangerous and she confides in him about the man that haunts her.
David Tennant plays Kilgrave, a man with the power of mind control. According to Jessica Jones, he made her do terrible things. We get to see an example of his power in the trailer. Kilgrave knocks on a door and suggests, to an unknown man, to let him in. You can tell that whoever this man is, he did not care for him but he does as suggested with a smile. You can tell that she is living in constant fear and anger because of Kilgrave and what he can and did do to her. She even confides in her friend who advices her that Kilgrave is not here.
Trish Walker (played Rachael Taylor) is Jessica's childhood best friend. She is also a former model and child star that is now works as a radio host. Jessica and Trish are like sisters but couldn't be more different from each other.
Last we have Carrie-Anne Moss playing Jeri Hogarth. Jeri is an attorney who represents the heroes for hire and was originally depicted in the comics as man.
Overall, this trailer has made me interested in the series. So much so, that immediately after viewing it, I rushed to Netflix only to find it was not available. I love the irony that Jessica is one of the strongest women in this world but even she has something she cowers from. I am not sure if she is more afraid of her dark past or Kilgrave, who plays an integral role in is past misdeeds.
I am always someone down for relationships in TV and Film. I love power couples even more, so I hope to see that play a role in this series.
The last thing I am looking forward to is the crossovers. Marvel's Defenders is supposed to act like The Avengers but for the small screen. I can't wait to see the little crumbs about each superheroes' world make its way into the different web series.
Let me know what you guys think in the comments. Is this something you would watch?
Marvel's Jessica Jones is set to be released on Netflix Nov. 20th.
