The Dark Swan Rises
Recap:
Season 5 of OUAT picks up where season 4 left off. The savior, Emma Swan, is now the dark one and now people are left wondering who is going to protect Storybrooke. Regina now has to take on the task of being the savior. For the past few seasons, Regina’s intentions have been good, and she has made moves to distance herself from her former villainous ways. However, there are still some folk in Storybrooke who don't trust her and continue to see her as the evil queen.
Trying to prove herself, Regina visits the apprentice, with Team Charming, who gives them a wand to assist with locating Emma. The wand contains all the light magic when wielded by someone dark, a portal will appear. Regina tries to use it but she is no longer dark. She devises a plan you Zelena’s dark magic to accomplish their goal.
Meanwhile Emma has been transported to the Enchanted Forest outside of Camelot and is having a hard time coming into her own as the dark. She is plagued by the collective conscious of the previous Dark Ones. Even though she has vowed not using dark magic the Dark One entity is tricking her to do just that. She comes across Brave’s Merida who is on a mission to bring a wisp home in order to get its help. Emma joins her and throughout their journey together, she is tempted by the entity to steal the wisp for herself. Merida overhears her plans and escapes to the wisp’s home alone. Emma catches up to her but Merida already made her wish. Enraged, Emma tries to kill the red head but luckily the crew arrives just in time to talk her out of it.
After Merida leaves, the group sets out on a journey to Camelot to search for a wizard by the name of Merlin in hopes of getting his aid of helping to rid her of the dark magic. But something unknown to the audience and the characters of OUAT occurs. We are once again left in suspense as the episode fast forwards 6 weeks later and we see a very different Emma, who has embraced the dark side and has cast a curse, leaving the resident of Storybrooke with no memory of what happened the past 6 weeks. Will they get their memories back in time to stop Emma's plan? Or will the dark one prevail?
We shall see what happens on the next episode.
Thoughts:
I personally like this season the most so far. It's refreshing to see a completely different side to Emma and it looks like the story is going to get darker. I'm also looking forward to how Rumpelstiltskin is going to be without dark magic anymore. Plus, I really want to see more action from Snow White. Ever since she had a child she's just been seen playing rock-a-bye baby. I also think it would be cool if Regina and Zelena teamed up to try and take on the dark one for everyone's sake, including Zelena's unborn child. She seems to really want the best for it so if that means taking on the dark one, she should be willing to help. Why not right?
