New Hero Snotgirl to Make Debut

Image Comics is pleased to announce the highly-anticipated new ongoing series SNOTGIRL by New York Times bestselling writer Bryan Lee O’Malley acclaimed creator of fan-favorite Scott Pilgrim. The new series features stunning artwork done by newcomer Leslie Hung. The new comic series was first announced at Image Expo and received follow-up promotion in the inaugural issue of Image Magazine.

During a press conference at the event, O'Malley and Hung talked about their inspiration for the story: "We're always talking about our allergies," said O'Malley. We thought "What if there's this girl who has allergies and maybe she can take a pill and be beautiful for a little while Leslie and I were just talking about ideas, and we just had this flow of ideas organically."

According to the press release, readers got a preview of what they will be treated to in "SNOTGIRL #1"; readers will meet Lottie Person. Lottie’s a gorgeous, fun-loving social media star with a seemingly perfect life—but deep-down is she really just a gross, allergy-ridden mess? Enter a world of snot, blood, and tears in this new ongoing series.

"Lottie Person is an extreme example of someone whose online persona is a calculated performance. She's gorgeous, she has great hair and clothes, she has the perfect apartment in downtown Los Angeles," said O'Malley of Lottie, in an interview in Image+ Magazine. "By all appearances she's flawless, but she's an introverted weirdo on the inside."

O’Malley gave us a seemingly flawed introvert in Scott Pilgrim, and this doesn’t really seem as much a stretch. The series seems to try and find that edgy balance of humorous and shocking that is the earmark of a good, dark comedy. O’Malley intends on exploring the “layers” of many of the characters which lead me to believe that this will be more of a character study as opposed to the more romantic narrative of “Scott Pilgrim”. O’Malley also said during the event that he would handle the majority of the writing, so I think we can expect much of the same humor as in Scott Pilgrim.

This promising new series; SNOTGIRL will launch this July.
