5 Fantasy Franchises You Can't Afford to Miss

1. Harry Potter

A young boy learns he is a wizard and dodges death for several books and movies.

Why is the franchise on the list? While it doesn’t compare to the books, this franchise is still the best fantasy franchise dealing with witches and wizards. The books alone have changed many people views on the morality of the magically inclined. I am just hoping that the newest addition to both the film and book series will live up to their predecessor.

2. Star Wars

This series is great! An intergalactic space opera that manages to fit in a piece form every genre? Sign me up! Even though plenty of fans do not appreciate "The Prequels" I have to say that the overall experience is still enjoyable. Besides, who doesn't love a dancing Darth Vader? Seriously, Wouldn't that be awesome though?

3. Hellboy

A demon grows up and becomes a defender of humanity against the rising forces of evil

This is a comic book movie that doesn’t disappoint. The characters are well rounded and unapologetic about their abnormal nature. This movie is well received by both critics and fans and the sequel is just as good as the original but with a few added bonuses. It continues the story from the original and adds in some more romance for our favorite red Hellboy.

4. Chronicles of Narnia

Four children travel to a magical land and free it from the Ice Queen's rule with the help of the people of Narnia

The story is told so well that most people won't even notice the religious undertones. The movies do get progressively worse but getting a chance to see a young Professor X as the famous Faun Tumnus is worth it.

5. Shrek

In a nutshell, Shrek is about an ogre agrees to rescue a princess in order to get his land cleared of the magical creatures that have been dumped there.

The movie is filled with witty satire, amazing songs, and a fascinating perverted depiction our our favorite fairy tale characters. Just like the previous entry, this franchise fell off by the end but hey, the first one was so good that it kind of evens out. We even managed to get a weird meme out of the deal.
