But what does this sneak peek have to do with the X-men now? As of now, the X-Men find themselves in a precarious predicament as an Inhuman Terrigen Mist has taken over the planet. The Mist caused the spread of the disease M-Pox, which has sterilized the mutant population and subsequently stopped the births of new mutants while also proving deadly to existing mutants.

There is no other information is available about "Death of X" at this time. It remains unknown who is working on the titles, or even the project’s format. We have no clue as to whether or not it is a new series, event, storyline or some other project entirely. Marvel presently has two events in the making. The currently unfolding and suspenseful X-Men event "Apocalypse Wars" and the upcoming "Civil War II," which also features a limited X-Men crossover.

In a few of the covers, we see the likes of Nightcrawler getting accosted by an angry mob, as well as a stoic tombstone of Colossus and Jean Gray seemingly succumbing to her overpowering inner phoenix. These covers seem grim and ominous, to say the least, but what they mean in the grand scheme of things is still a mystery.
