Movie Reviews: The Librarian

This movie came out in 2004 so it’s old and has some slightly old references for example Flynn, the main character, is a career student having 22 degrees under his belt while still taking more classes. Instead of his professor appreciating having a student that wants to be educated, he decides Flynn needs to get a job and live a more “productive” life. I’m about six minutes in and I am already bored. It is a good thing I saw the series before I watched this movie because wow.

Flynn lives with his mother in a bedroom full to the brim with books and after having 22 degrees his mother is completely supportive of his lack of a career despite him being overly educated. If I have learned anything from movies its letters are the key to adventure, especially when everything in your life has just gone downhill. Flynn answers his letter from the metropolitan library for an interview and immediately gets the job.

On his first day, Flynn, without any training and a brief overview of what the library actually does, is tasked with saving the world and given a folder and book written in a dead language that he needs to decipher in an airplane ride. He does decode the language halfway through the extensively long flight to the amazon, only to be immediately attacked by a whole section of passengers who happen to be in the Serpent Order.

The Serpent Order is a group who is bent on ruling the world. It is very hard to get three seats together on a flight without advance planning. How did the serpents get an entire section minus 2 seats? The person next to Flynn just happens to save his life by pushing him out of the plane, without a parachute, but grabs him in midair and they both land safely. Then she explains who she is and that she is there to protect him. The entire movie, his mother’s only concern was him having a girlfriend then suddenly at the end when he gets a job after being a college student well into his 30’s she downplays his job and say someone needs to push him. Where was this need to push him when he was in school with 20+ degrees?

The Review:

This movie is bad. Avoid it. You can completely skip it and catch season one without getting confused. The graphics are bad even for over a decade ago and if I didn’t already like the series I would have never watched it after this horrible movie. My rating would’ve been lower but my love for the series has kept it as high as it is. Don’t make my mistake and watch this movie. Save yourself.

Final Score: 2/10
