Trailer Discussions: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016)

I just finished watching the preview for this movie which comes out in February and I honestly can’t wait to see more of this but I feel there are already several things wrong with it. The first issue I have is that it’s coming out in February and not October. When I think of zombies I think of Halloween and not Valentine’s Day. The next issue is that fact that in order to exist, this movie just butchered a classic book. When I think of all the issues that pride and prejudice tackled, I feel like zombies was left out for a reason. The trailer revealed several interesting things about what would be in this movie.

The fact that the women still have to wear long dresses and time period appropriate clothing while battling zombies seems unrealistic even for a zombie film. The idea that a female can battle zombies in a floor length dress is insane to say the least. The idea that finding a husband who won’t make you give up fighting zombies even after you become is wife, isn’t the sanest plot point, to say the least. In this world, it’s a known fact that zombies exist and the sister are fighting them. What happened to secrecy?

The secrecy of zombies existing? Generally, in these type of supernatural tales, no one but the hunters know about the dark underbelly of society. From what I could see from the preview, everyone seems to know. Soldiers are literally wheeling zombie bodies around. What happened to the times where supernatural being were secret and you had to be a special member of the club to gain access? Long gone are those days.

Apparently this movie is based on a book by the same name. I have watched many versions of pride and prejudice. My personal favorite being bride and prejudice but I think adding zombies to the prim and proper world takes things a bit too far. However at least from the preview no one is falling in love with the zombie or trying to save it so, I’ll give it a chance but my expectations are very low when it comes to movies based on classics.

If you want to find out more about this movie, you can always checkout the trailer yourself. It’s at the bottom of this page. What do you think about the movie? Do you think it is okay to bastardize a classic novel? Is the film industry becoming oversaturated with zombies? Leave any questions or comments you have in the comments section.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies release date is Feb, 5.
